Cosmetic Injectables

At Kearny County Hospital, we have more options than ever so you can age with confidence and grace.

Thanks to advances in aesthetic medicine, it’s possible to refresh your appearance at any stage of life. Our medical aesthetics services — also known as cosmetic injectables — are designed to help you look and feel your best.

Why Your Skin Deserves Expert Care

Your skin is your body’s largest organ, and while beauty goes beyond the surface, your appearance often influences how you feel. That’s why we take a comprehensive approach to aesthetics, supporting both your appearance and your confidence.

The Benefits of Cosmetic Injectables

  • Neurotoxin injections temporarily relax facial muscles, smoothing out lines and wrinkles. By limiting muscle movement, these treatments can also help prevent new wrinkles.
  • Injectables improve skin tone and texture, giving your complexion a more youthful, refreshed look.
  • Most patients report a boost in self-esteem after treatment.
  • Treatments require little to no downtime. Most people return to their normal activities right away.
  • Results typically last 3–4 months.
  • Both women and men can benefit, including those in their 20s using injectables preventatively.

Botox – Before Treatment

To ensure the best results and minimize side effects, please follow these guidelines:

One week before treatment:

Avoid anti-inflammatory and blood-thinning medications if possible. This helps reduce bruise and bleeding at the injection site. These include:

  • Anti-inflammatory medications: Motrin, Ibuprofen, Aleve
  • Blood thinners (do not stop prescribed medications without consulting your doctor)
  • Over-the-counter blood thinners: Aspirin, Fish Oil, Ginkgo, St. John’s Wort, Garlic, Vitamin E, Omega supplements.

24 Hours before treatment:

Avoid alcohol consumption, as it can thin blood and increase the risk of bruising.

Additional Considerations:

  • If you have a history of cold sores, inform your provider in advance. You may need a prescription of antiviral medication if treatment occurs around the mouth.
  • If you develop active cold sores, rash, or blemishes in the treatment area, please reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.

You are NOT a candidate for Botox if you are:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have a history of neurological disorders (Please discuss with your provider)

You may use Arnica to help minimize bruising and swelling. Arnica can be purchased over the counter at health food stores and may be started two weeks prior to treatment.

Day of treatment:

  • Arrive with a clean face.
  • You may experience mild tenderness or stinging during and after the procedure.
  • Some redness, swelling, and bruising is normal and will subside over time.

Botox – Aftercare Instructions

Following these post-treatment guidelines will help you achieve the best results and minimize side effects.

Immediate Aftercare (First 4 Hours):

  • Remain upright for at least 4 hours after treatment – avoid lying down.
  • Do not rub or massage the treated area to prevent the product from spreading to unintended muscles.
  • Avoid wearing tight headbands, hats, or helmets if you received treatment on the forehead.

First 24 Hours:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sweating, and saunas/hot tubs.
  • You may apply a cool compress if you experience swelling, but do not apply pressure.
  • Makeup can be applied gently if needed but avoid excessive touching of the treated areas.
  • Do not consume alcohol or take blood-thinning medications (Such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, Vitamin E) unless prescribed, as these can increase bruising. Do NOT stop prescribed medications unless it is ok with your prescribing physician.
  • Avoid facials, facial massages, or any skin treatments that involve pressure or heat for 24 hours.

Days 2-7:

  • Minor bruising or swelling is normal and should subside within a few days.
  • Results typically appear within 3-14 days.
  • If needed, you may take Tylenol for mild discomfort (avoid Ibuprofen and Aspirin).

When to Contact your Provider:
